ASL Pope Vatican News from Rome, Italy. American Sign Language interpretation of Pope Francis’ General Audience. It has been almost a year now that the Vatican News has been offering news in American Sign Language to the rest of the world. Why ASL? In America it is deemed a real language where as in other countries it is doubted. Furthermore, there is no technical universal sign language in the world. So is the start of the universal sign language movement? Maybe!
ASL Pope Vatican News should reach the four corners of the world and to all the churches that our Christian and have a strong Deaf culture to them. Non-Denominational, Baptist, and 7th day Adventist Deaf Churches still ought to hearken to Vicar of Christ on earth.

Synod 2021-2023: Communion, Participation, Mission (Deaf Ministry Perspective). As part of the synodal process, NCOD is gathering feedback from the deaf community to be shared with the USCCB who will summarize the national report that will be sent to the Vatican.
This survey is open for everyone. Even if you did not join us at Pastoral Week, you are welcome to complete the survey. This includes the deaf Catholic community, hearing community who work within deaf ministry, family members, non-Catholic deaf, and others.

The Family: The School of Love in ASL
The Family: The School of Love in ASL is done by ASL Catholic Media. The particular podcast was given by the St. Josemaria Institute. In this video entitled “The Family: The School of Love” is the importance of the family at-hand. The family is the nucleus of society and it must be respected, nurtured, and nourished at all costs. For more spiritual videos in ASL click here. We all have a family don’t we?! Look, if your whole family history is next to near as our Lord’s, then you are ok. You are normal then because our Lord’s family line was far from perfect. Remember he was like us in all ways but sin. He knows the emotions felt by tension within and outside the family. Our Lord gets it, do we? The School of Love in ASL is a great video to reflect on our lives and how we view and understand the family. Cmon’ if we get the family right – we get most things right. We are all wanting of a family, let alone a decent modest family that has some respect, dignity, but most importantly has love somewhere mixed in.
World Day of the Sick Mass
World Day of the Sick Mass will be celebrated on February 12th at 10am at Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. Many who bear the burden of physical ailments are more than welcome to attend this sacred mass. Every year the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community attends. The Diocese has a elite cadre of ASL interpreters to select from. Our ASL Interpreters have been going strong serving the Deaf community for over 25+ years. One interpreter of ours knows at least three languages including ASL that we know of. So, please come the World Day of the Sick Mass.
It may be an opportunity for members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to join the Order of Malta.
The mass will most likely be multi-lingual. If English, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Sign Language is your mother tongue, we got you covered. God so loves all of us that he wants you to draw us to himself.
Sleep well tonight and rise in the morning. Bringing your heavy cross, back ache, broken heart, and stress at the feet our Lord Jesus Christ. May we receive our Lords peace and healing tomorrow as we go to the World Day of Sick Mass.
Fr. James Altman “Hot topic”
Fr. James Altman “Hot Topic” ASL interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are not common in media outlets, i.e. on cable channels or the internet. The number of interpreters for Catholic news pieces of any scope, topic, and what-have-you are quite scarce. Furthermore, what is a rare siting are ASL interpreted “hot-topic” position-papers that deal with politics and the Catholic faith. The intent of sharing this video is not to posit a viewpoint on behalf of the diocese or of anyone person in the church to all of you. Rather, the intent of sharing this video is to listen to what a lot of people believe in the world today; By viewing and listening to what one side of the isle has expressed, in this case, by Fr. Altman, we can ignore, disagree, or agree with everything (or partially everything) shared in the video above. At best, we are called to consider despite the viewpoint shared, how we are living our Catholic faith, and moreover, to consider our personal relationship with God.

Eucharistic Miracle Rimini, Italy
Eucharistic Miracle Rimini, Italy: “The miracle story happened in 1227 at Rimini, Italy. A faithless man, Bonovillo, did not believe that Holy Communion is truly Christ’s Body. Saint Anthony tried to lead him to the Catholic Faith but both argued back and forth. Later, Bonovillo challenged St Anthony and said that he would keep his mule in a cage for three days without food. After three days, St Anthony would bring the Blessed Sacrament in front the donkey, and if his mule ate food then there is no Catholic Faith. But if the mule didn’t eat the food, then Bonovillo would convert to the Catholic Faith. St Anthony happily accepted the challenge and set up the date and time. (Eucharistic Miracle Rimini, Italy) On the third day at the Piazza Grande, a crowd of people gathered to witness and Bonovillo brought a hungry donkey. When St Anthony appeared with a monstrance with a Host, he said “By virtue of and in the name of your Creator Whom however unworthy I may be, hold in my hands, I tell you and command you: come forward at once and render homage to the Lord with due respect so that evildoers and heretic may understand that all creatures should bow before their Creator Whom the priests hold in their hands on the altar”. In the meantime, Bonovillo tried to feed some food to his hungry mule, but his mule refused and kneeled to respect the Host in adoration. Everybody was shocked and kneeled as well. You will be able to find in such dioceses around the world prominent Deaf ministries and Deaf pastoral workers. To find a Deaf Catholic parish near you, you need simply to click on the link above.
