Lent preparation in ASL
Lent preparation in ASL is given to us by ASL Catholic Media in partnership with St. Jose Maria Institute. The theological depth and richness of St. Jose Maria’s institute is shared with us in ASL. What a blessing! You don’t need to leave your house to attend and watch these podcasts. We are so blessed to have these Catholic resources available to us. Lent in Sign Language is a term that google search results do not show much Catholic listings. And so, this episode of a Lent ASL Teaching Resource breaks the barrier. We hope to get the Catholic vibe of lent in ASL out there! #Lent ASL Catholic.
If you would like to contact ASL Catholic Media and give them a donation for the amount of time they have given us for Lent preparation in ASL, find them here. Lent in Sign Language is not often preached on. To be more clear this is a great Lent ASL Teaching Resource. Hopefully, more and more will be inspired to get the word out in ASL about the resurrection and all that happens during the season of lent.

Gospel in ASL 8th Sunday
ASL Catholic Media delivers the bible in American Sign Language. This week’s work is the gospel in ASL 8th Sunday. The Gospel in American Sign Language is then given reflection by Fr. Mike Depcik. Furthermore, ADW Deaf and Disabilities ministry also provide the parts of the bible in ASL.
With these three entities any Catholic-Christian Deaf ministry is able to provide the readings in American Sign Language. You can write out an ASL gloss for the lectors if needed. If however, there are interpreters for your congregation that need assistance. You can share these links to them to help prepare for mass.
Gospel in ASL 8th Sunday takes much time as does every mass set of readings. Accurate transliteration of the text for everyone takes many hours to get right. We thank all of the above for making Deaf ministry a priority so that we can all enjoy the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The gospel in American Sign Language is awesome. ASL makes the text come to life. In fact not only in ASL but in other sign languages throughout the world does the text come to life. Yes, sign language is not universal around the world.

Eucharistic Miracle in Rome, Italy in ASL
Eucharistic Miracle in Rome, Italy in ASL. “Another miracle story about St Pudentiana is the one oldest churches in Rome, Italy. Roman Senator Pudente invited Apostle Peter into his home. The home was converted into church and it is named after senator’s daughter, Pudentiana. Both sisters, Pudentiana and her sister Praxides, they never martyred (people who get killed in their faith) and they became famous by wiped up the martyrs blood after the latter were executed. The church is adorned with numerous Roman mosaics (windows or wall) from early Christian era and was constructed under Pope Pius I in 145 A.D where the senator’s home’s site at both daughter’s wishes. The Cactaini Chapel’s altar steps was made by Caitani family. The imprint and Blood stain left by a Host which was fallen from priest’s hands while he was celebrated the Mass. The priest was doubted believing that the Real Presence of Jesus in the consecrated Host, After the consecration he careless dropped the Host to the ground where the imprint mark is. The imprint mark is still there for all people to see today.” –Youtube post
Every week Al Alvord posts a new eucharistic miracle retold in American Sign Language.
Deaf Ministry Near Me
Deaf Ministry Near Me is a common question many Deaf and Hard of Hearing have. Much work has been done to help you locate a Deaf Church in your area. You can Find a Deaf Church near you by clicking “Find a ASL Mass near me” on the homepage beneath the search bar. Once you find the nearest Deaf Church you then can find Deaf ministry opportunities. Sometimes we might ask the question where ministries for the Deaf are. We might say it like “Deaf Church Where?”
What we offer will eliminate your frustration of having to search the internet for churches. We have done and are continually searching for Deaf churches online. We confirm that they are actually happening. We strive to give you the most current information of where you can find a parish. And by find a parish you also find Deaf ministry opportunities!
In California there are a handful of Deaf Catholic Churches. In the Greater Los Angeles Area you will find us in Orange County. We hope to be your home for Deaf fellowship, worship, bible studies, and many gatherings. But, if we are not the closest in your area simply type in your address to the Deaf Church Where finder and we will pin point where you need to go.

Deaf Ministry Connection
Catholic Deaf Ministry Connection is a work in progress. Connecting Deaf Ministries has already begun years ago. The National Catholic Office for the Deaf has a list of members in the United States. The International Catholic Deaf Association-US also has a chapter list of members. Here is the ICDA Facebook page address. Some would think that one or two sites collecting the Catholic parishes supporting Deaf ministries would connect us all together once and for all right? Wrong. We ought to note that Deaf Catholic World on Facebook is a huge hit. Probably more popular and receiving more internet traffic than the above two listed sites combined. Another attempt of improving the Deaf Ministry Connection has been putting an interactive map that shows where all the parishes are in the world are. To be fair, all of the attempts to bring us all together are flourishing.
But what gets us all together in the Church is the world of God. To better the Deaf Ministry Connection there are many entities today that are primarily focused on spreading the good news. In no particular order here are some of the best out there today: Fr. Mike Depcik’s Kitchen Table, Deaf Catholic Philly, ASL Catholic Media, ASL Youcat, Al Alvord, ADW, and Vatican News. If you are zealous to help improve the Deaf Ministry Connection worldwide and in your beloved diocese, contact us.
Deaf Ministry Resources
Deaf Ministry is growing. Why is this? There are number of possible reasons. First and foremost is that God loves us. God wants to draw all men to himself. So that is why Deaf Church Ministry is on the rise. There are a number of Deaf Ministry Resources available.
Another reason why Deaf ministry is booming in all Churches is that American Sign Language is an official language. It has all of the requirements of a language. For this reason almost all schools and colleges offer courses in ASL. Ergo, the more exposure and course offering available the more people who know the language.
To make this even more clear why ministry to the Deaf is becoming more prominent is due to a compounding of the points above. With more and more knowing sign language it becomes more obvious to them to think “where are the Deaf?” Hence the need for such pastoral care. God is calling all of us.
With this mind we ought to be creative and make the gospel attractive. We are in the season of the “New Evangelization” which includes the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. And so we need more resources. Preacher’s Shock
https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=359488317972706
Preacher’s Shock is one the funniest church stories in American Sign Language. It is done exceptionally well by OIC movies. It is also a wonderful teaching point of how to emphasize facial expressions in ASL.
