Lent preparation in ASL
Lent preparation in ASL is given to us by ASL Catholic Media in partnership with St. Jose Maria Institute. The theological depth and richness of St. Jose Maria’s institute is shared with us in ASL. What a blessing! You don’t need to leave your house to attend and watch these podcasts. We are so blessed to have these Catholic resources available to us. Lent in Sign Language is a term that google search results do not show much Catholic listings. And so, this episode of a Lent ASL Teaching Resource breaks the barrier. We hope to get the Catholic vibe of lent in ASL out there! #Lent ASL Catholic.

Lent in Sign Language is not often preached on. To be more clear this is a great Lent ASL Teaching Resource. Hopefully, more and more will be inspired to get the word out in ASL about the resurrection and all that happens during the season of lent.

Spreading the Gospel in American Sign Language
Spreading the Gospel in American Sign Language are two widely known entities, namely Fr. Mike Depcik and ASL Catholic Media. Fr. Mike Depcik is a force of nature conveying Jesus Christ to the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Hearing (who are deaf). ASL Catholic Media provides probably the most conceptually and grammatically accurate translation of the gospel. There might be others out there but they have not yet committed to public Deaf ministry. We will pray for their conversion. The Archdiocese of Washington DC also does a good job Spreading the Gospel in American Sign Language. The uniqueness of the Gospel in ASL especially by Catholics is that we are too few in number, and we are not that organized in terms of formalizing how the gospel is interpreted. By watching these interpretations of the Gospel in ASL. We all hope that the message of truth and love that revelation gives us to us draws us closer to Jesus Christ. Deaf Ministry – Eucharistic Miracles – ASL. Eucharistic Miracle Rome, Italy Rome #1 in ASL.
~”This miracle occurred in Rome, Italy in 595. A faithful woman made the bread to be used at Mass and gave it to her church for the Consecration. Pope St Gregory the Great was celebrating the Mass, and while he was distributing Holy Communion, the faithful woman was standing in line along with other people and she heard the Pope saying “Body of Christ”. She laughed aloud, and the Pope stopped her and asked her to explain her behavior. Deaf Ministry – Eucharistic Miracles – ASL. She explained that she could not believe that the bread that she had made, had truly become the Body and Blood of Christ. Pope St Gregory refused to give her Communion and he prayed and begged God to help her to understand the truth about the Consecration and the bread and wine becoming the Body and Blood of Christ. [Deaf Ministry – Eucharistic Miracles – ASL] After he finished his prayers, he saw the consecrated Host become Flesh and Blood. The woman repented and knelt on the ground crying. Currently the miracle is preserved in a relic at the Benedictine monastery in Andechs, Germany. You can visit and see the miracle. I don’t know why they preserved it in Germany instead of Rome. The Family: The School of Love in ASL
The Family: The School of Love in ASL is done by ASL Catholic Media. The particular podcast was given by the St. Josemaria Institute. In this video entitled “The Family: The School of Love” is the importance of the family at-hand. The family is the nucleus of society and it must be respected, nurtured, and nourished at all costs. For more spiritual videos in ASL click here. We all have a family don’t we?! Look, if your whole family history is next to near as our Lord’s, then you are ok. You are normal then because our Lord’s family line was far from perfect. Remember he was like us in all ways but sin. He knows the emotions felt by tension within and outside the family. Our Lord gets it, do we? The School of Love in ASL is a great video to reflect on our lives and how we view and understand the family. Cmon’ if we get the family right – we get most things right. We are all wanting of a family, let alone a decent modest family that has some respect, dignity, but most importantly has love somewhere mixed in.

Moreover, there are Catholic parishes supporting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Ireland, United Kingdom, Singapore, Spain, Mexico, Argentia, Italy, Poland, Germany…etc to name a few. You will be able to find in such dioceses around the world prominent Deaf ministries and Deaf pastoral workers. To find a Deaf Catholic parish near you, you need simply to click on the link above. Simply enter your address or city to which the nearest parish will present itself. Deaf Church where? Will help you by clicking the link above to find your nearest Deaf Catholic congregation. Another place where can find information about Deaf Catholic parishes in the United States is at the National Catholic Office for the Deaf.

Eucharistic Miracle – Patierno, Italy
Eucharistic Miracle – Patierno, Italy “On February 24th, 1772, unknown thieves stole several consecrated Hosts from St Peter’s church in Patierno, Italy. They hid them under the manure in the next town Duke of Grottoville. One month later, a dove led a person to the site where the sun’s rays shined directly to pile of manure. She found the Hosts with no damage and brought them back to the church. The church made the hosts using an iron with special markings, so they were able to prove that the Hosts came from St Peter’s. They were exposed to the public to respect and honor the Body of the Christ. On August 29, 1774 the Archbishop from Curia declared the Hosts that were found were a miracle because of this. The miraculous finding and return of the Hosts proved that the Host is the real Body of Christ. But in 1778, unknown thieves stole the same Host that was stolen in 1772. Eucharistic Miracle of Offida, Italy “The miracle happened in Offida, Italy. In 1273, in the town of Lanciano, a woman named Ricciarela went to see a witch and asked how she could regain the affection of her husband, Giacomo Stasio. The witch suggested she go to the church to get a consecrated (blessed) Host. After she returned home with the Host, she placed the Host on the fire in an earthenware jar. Then she turned the Host into powder so she could put the powder on her husband’s food. But the Host, itself, became living Blood. She was terrified and wrapped the jar and bloodied Host with a tablecloth, and then she buried it under the manure in her husband’s stable. Strange events began happening in the stable; every time her husband’s donkey entered and lower one knee to the ground to respect toward to manure where the Host was buried. Her husband was puzzled and began to think that his wife had punished the donkey. Seven years later Ricciarella was mentally depressed with guilt and was in tears screaming “I killed God! I killed God!” She confessed to the Augustinian priest, and he went to the stable and found the Host. Later it was given to some Offida townsmen. The people in town made a cross shaped reliquary (Made of gold with precious gems) for Holy relic with the Host. Another story: later two monks Brother Michael and another monk with the cross arrived in Venice to make a reliquary. They made a craftsman promise not to show to anyone when he saw inside the cross. After an oath, he took the pyx with the miracle Host, but he suddenly got a fever and asked the monks “What have you brought me?” The monks asked him if he had any mortal sins and the craftsman made his confession and his fever was gone. So he took the pyx without a problem. He fixed both the Host and some wood from the True Cross inside the cross-shaped reliquary with crystal. (See image). Currently, the reliquaries of the jar and Blood stained linen with the cross with a miracle Host are displayed in St Augustine’s Church in Offida. Also, Ricciarella’s house in Lanciano was turned into a small chapel. In 1973, the miracle was celebrated and every year on May 3rd, people in Offida celebrate the anniversary of the miracle.
