The definition of the word “catholic” is universal. ASL is short for American Sign Language. You can find a church universally in sign language almost anywhere in the word. Check it out!

ASL Church
A big component of any Deaf Church is the use of American Sign Language. This includes parents of Deaf children. Family members of the Deaf are in most ways obligated to know ASL anyways. Language within any culture is cherished or sacred. It is the language that they relate to God and the manner in which they yearn to know God through.
We realize that many have relatives that are Deaf and do not yet know ASL. Attending our services, retreats, and other public gatherings increases your language receptivity skills. “Little by little” as the idiom goes. In no time our Deaf community will support you in your ASL language quest. Over a couple years you will be up-to-speed and converse fluently in Sign Language.
Catholic American Sign Language
In addition to already being fluent in ASL or if you are learning the language you will find that there are different signs for biblical terms. Yes, nearly every Christian denomination has it’s own version of biblical terms. Why? Because the signs used denotes the underlying theology. i.e. Catholic American Sign Language signs will be different than most protestant or baptist churches. Some Christian ASL signs are the same i.e. “sin”. What is more interesting is the differences between national Catholic sign languages. For example, the Catholic ASL sign for God is a bent open-B arching above the head with your dominant hand. In Italy, LIS is the sign language use there. For God, it is simply the index finger of your dominant hand pointed upward. International Catholic sign language signs are different but, underlying the same theology.
What is even more odd or confusing is to find non-denominational churches using the same signs other non-American Catholic countries are using. For example, non-denominational Christian American Sign Language for a term may be the index finger pointed upward like the Catholics in Italy do. But the question remains as to whether their notion or understanding of the triune God is the same. Interesting huh? Welcome to the Church! At any rate we welcome you to our ASL Church.

The Family: The School of Love in ASL
The Family: The School of Love in ASL is done by ASL Catholic Media. The particular podcast was given by the St. Josemaria Institute. In this video entitled “The Family: The School of Love” is the importance of the family at-hand. The family is the nucleus of society and it must be respected, nurtured, and nourished at all costs. For more spiritual videos in ASL click here. We all have a family don’t we?! Look, if your whole family history is next to near as our Lord’s, then you are ok. You are normal then because our Lord’s family line was far from perfect. Remember he was like us in all ways but sin. He knows the emotions felt by tension within and outside the family. Our Lord gets it, do we? The School of Love in ASL is a great video to reflect on our lives and how we view and understand the family. Cmon’ if we get the family right – we get most things right. We are all wanting of a family, let alone a decent modest family that has some respect, dignity, but most importantly has love somewhere mixed in.
World Day of the Sick Mass
World Day of the Sick Mass will be celebrated on February 12th at 10am at Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. Many who bear the burden of physical ailments are more than welcome to attend this sacred mass. Every year the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community attends. The Diocese has a elite cadre of ASL interpreters to select from. Our ASL Interpreters have been going strong serving the Deaf community for over 25+ years. One interpreter of ours knows at least three languages including ASL that we know of. So, please come the World Day of the Sick Mass.
It may be an opportunity for members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to join the Order of Malta.
The mass will most likely be multi-lingual. If English, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Sign Language is your mother tongue, we got you covered. God so loves all of us that he wants you to draw us to himself.
Sleep well tonight and rise in the morning. Bringing your heavy cross, back ache, broken heart, and stress at the feet our Lord Jesus Christ. May we receive our Lords peace and healing tomorrow as we go to the World Day of Sick Mass.

Moreover, there are Catholic parishes supporting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Ireland, United Kingdom, Singapore, Spain, Mexico, Argentia, Italy, Poland, Germany…etc to name a few. You will be able to find in such dioceses around the world prominent Deaf ministries and Deaf pastoral workers. To find a Deaf Catholic parish near you, you need simply to click on the link above. Eucharistic Miracle – Patierno, Italy
Eucharistic Miracle – Patierno, Italy “On February 24th, 1772, unknown thieves stole several consecrated Hosts from St Peter’s church in Patierno, Italy. They hid them under the manure in the next town Duke of Grottoville. One month later, a dove led a person to the site where the sun’s rays shined directly to pile of manure. She found the Hosts with no damage and brought them back to the church. The church made the hosts using an iron with special markings, so they were able to prove that the Hosts came from St Peter’s. They were exposed to the public to respect and honor the Body of the Christ. On August 29, 1774 the Archbishop from Curia declared the Hosts that were found were a miracle because of this. The miraculous finding and return of the Hosts proved that the Host is the real Body of Christ. But in 1778, unknown thieves stole the same Host that was stolen in 1772.
