Deaf Ministry Connection
Catholic Deaf Ministry Connection is a work in progress. Connecting Deaf Ministries has already begun years ago. The National Catholic Office for the Deaf has a list of members in the United States. The International Catholic Deaf Association-US also has a chapter list of members. Here is the ICDA Facebook page address. Some would think that one or two sites collecting the Catholic parishes supporting Deaf ministries would connect us all together once and for all right? Wrong. We ought to note that Deaf Catholic World on Facebook is a huge hit. Probably more popular and receiving more internet traffic than the above two listed sites combined. Another attempt of improving the Deaf Ministry Connection has been putting an interactive map that shows where all the parishes are in the world are. To be fair, all of the attempts to bring us all together are flourishing.
But what gets us all together in the Church is the world of God. To better the Deaf Ministry Connection there are many entities today that are primarily focused on spreading the good news. Deaf Ministry Resources
Deaf Ministry is growing. Why is this? There are number of possible reasons. First and foremost is that God loves us. God wants to draw all men to himself. So that is why Deaf Church Ministry is on the rise. There are a number of Deaf Ministry Resources available.
Another reason why Deaf ministry is booming in all Churches is that American Sign Language is an official language. It has all of the requirements of a language. For this reason almost all schools and colleges offer courses in ASL. Ergo, the more exposure and course offering available the more people who know the language.
To make this even more clear why ministry to the Deaf is becoming more prominent is due to a compounding of the points above. With more and more knowing sign language it becomes more obvious to them to think “where are the Deaf?” Hence the need for such pastoral care. God is calling all of us.
With this mind we ought to be creative and make the gospel attractive. We are in the season of the “New Evangelization” which includes the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. And so we need more resources. This episode of ASL Youcat highlights what a Christian house of prayer is. It is where we are spiritually fed. A Christian house of prayer (popularly Centers, Chapels, Cathedrals, Basilicas, and Churches)is where we encounter heaven on earth. We experience the divine while on earth in a house of prayer.
The most Holy Eucharist and Precious blood is offered to us so that we might have the love of God within us. The love of God is called grace. Grace precisely is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit within us. We get this when we receive our Lord’s body and blood: when we are at church and in the state of grace.

This survey is open for everyone. Even if you did not join us at Pastoral Week, you are welcome to complete the survey. This includes the deaf Catholic community, hearing community who work within deaf ministry, family members, non-Catholic deaf, and others.

Fr. James Altman “Hot Topic” ASL interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are not common in media outlets, i.e. on cable channels or the internet. The number of interpreters for Catholic news pieces of any scope, topic, and what-have-you are quite scarce. Furthermore, what is a rare siting are ASL interpreted “hot-topic” position-papers that deal with politics and the Catholic faith. The intent of sharing this video is not to posit a viewpoint on behalf of the diocese or of anyone person in the church to all of you. Rather, the intent of sharing this video is to listen to what a lot of people believe in the world today; By viewing and listening to what one side of the isle has expressed, in this case, by Fr. Altman, we can ignore, disagree, or agree with everything (or partially everything) shared in the video above. At best, we are called to consider despite the viewpoint shared, how we are living our Catholic faith, and moreover, to consider our personal relationship with God.
