Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church

We do not have online masses from our parish.

We are a destination parish and have members from up to 100 miles away.  Most of our members are dual registered at their local parish and at our parish.  Because members come from a distance, it is not uncommon for people to start arriving at 8:30 and stay to 1 or 1:30.  Our Mass is at 10:30.

We periodically have a film club that covers films on saints.  We have found that the majority of our Deaf Community did not have much religious education and they are very excited for these events.   We generally break a move over 4 or 5 weeks and have interpreters that facilitate discussion groups after each session.  Our parish generally has coffee and donuts or a parish meal each Sunday.  This is a great community builder.

Our parish is approximately 1/3 deaf,  1/3 family members of deaf, and 1/3 members of the community.  We were traditionally the Italian American church in NE Minneapolis.  In NE Minneapolis, every parish was built by a different immigrant group.  When I-35W was built it was placed down the center of the Italian American community and a significant amount of our members were forced to relocate.  In 1986, the Catholic Deaf Community joined our parish to fill in for the drop in attendance.  Both of our communities have reduced in size.

Our church also hosts a monthly Deaf seniors program which runs from 8:30 to 3:30   They have their own planning committee.  They have a meal and play various games.   They are their own non-profit organization.

Our parish also helps arrange interpreters for the Archdiocese events and for other parishes.
